The importance of listening
There’s a big push for engagement from policy makers to funders. It feels like everyone is running a survey or consultation. At Reboot, we’re no different. We want to hear from everyone involved in the system we are trying to change. With more and more organisations looking to hear from community members, we thought we’d share some of what we have learnt about listening.
It sounds obvious but listening to people should never be a rushed after thought. People need time to share what matters to them. Time is necessary for checking in and making sure that we’ve properly understood what someone has raised.
Everyone is unique and has different abilities and preferences when it comes to communicating. A wide range of ways of taking part and sharing experiences should be offered to suit different needs and styles.
