About Us
About Us
Initiated by Aberdeen Foyer and funded by the National Lottery’s Community Fund, Reboot is a collaborative that works alongside and with young people in Aberdeen to explore fresh perspectives on real and current issues facing them, their families and their communities.
Together, we use innovative ways and collective means to discover and understand the barriers young people encounter within the systems they find themselves in – and the opportunities for change that exist. This includes their schools, places of further education, employment opportunities and housing provision.
Our work gives young people and those who work alongside them the chance not just to navigate their way round the system – but the opportunity to redraw the map.
Reboot Team
Reboot is a collective of voices, experiences and insight. We work with young people and many others who want to make an impact on their lives, communities and futures including teachers, charities, colleges, council representatives. The most important people within Reboot are the young people who help us explore the systems they are part of. In addition, Reboot has two members of staff who help make this happen:
Youth and Community Engagement Lead
I love engaging the Youth and Community on their terms and with them in the centre of the work. Reboot has given me the opportunity to really listen and communicate what young people have told me to people who have the power to change things for the young people. It’s not always a straight forward and easy process, but I like a challenge.
Programme Lead
I’m delighted to be part of this exciting initiative. There are many fantastic organisations in Aberdeen working to improve young people’s lives. Reboot gives us an opportunity to get out of our silos and come together to ensure no young person is left behind.
Our collective
Reboot is a collective of voices, experiences and insight. Our primary partners are and always will be the young people whose perspectives are central to every piece of work we do. People from the following organisations have also explored their context and their system with these young people
Partnership working has always been at the core of Aberdeen Foyer. We exist within a strong eco-system of support services in the North-East who are all aiming to see this area be a place where people not only live but thrive. Some issues are too complex for one service or even one organisation to tackle. Reboot provides the opportunity and space to look at issues from multiple perspectives and not only work in partnership but work collectively. This means going beyond simply knowing each other but exploring issues and working on them together. Together includes young people and their families. They provide context as to how policies, processes and systems are experienced on the ground. Aberdeen Foyer has always championed a ‘nothing about us without us approach’ and it’s great to see Reboot exploring different ways to meaningfully engage young people that we can all share and learn from.

From a personal and professional perspective, I can confidently state that collaborating with Reboot allows me to develop a better understanding of the wider system around young people in Aberdeen and also provides challenge and new perspectives on the services provided by the College and the perspectives of those delivering and experiencing those services. Participating in the recent Reboot, ‘Preventing Youth Homelessness’ Workshops has reinforced to me the value of Reboot bringing together different people and perspectives from various parts of ‘the system’ to better understand the problems young people face but more importantly, how we can act and initiate change for the betterment of young people in the city.

When the partnership with Reboot first arose the DLLT were making steps to move upwards on the ladder of participation, becoming a truly youth-led organisation. Forming a youth forum made up of Streetsport young volunteers from our various locations across the city has been our first significant step. Having the support of Reboot has inspired us to realise this goal and while it’s still ongoing we feel more capable than ever.
